Dear Friends,

I am really proud to participate in this function to honour the supreme sacrifice done by the first Army Officer Major M. Saravanan, Vir Chakra, martyred in Operation Vijay during the Kargil war 1999. The site of the memorial established in the name of Major M. Saravanan by the Government of Tamilnadu symbolizes how people salutes the supreme sacrifice of our Army officers and soldiers and remembers the valor of all those who laid down their lives to protect the nation from the infiltrators. The nation is safe today because of the sacrifice of committed soldiers like Major M. Saravanan. When I met Mrs. Amirthavalli Mariappan, Mother of "Hero of Batalik", I came to know that she is a proud woman of India, who gave her husband Lt. Col. Mariappan and her son Major M Saravanan for the nation. I salute the indomitable spirit of the mother who sacrificed both husband and her son. When I look at the supreme sacrifice of Major M. Saravanan, I am reminded of a poem which I have written remembering the valour of soldiers, which I would like to recite with you.

2004ம்‌ வருடம்‌ ஜூன்‌ 18ம்‌ தேதி மகாராஷ்டிரவில்‌ உள்ள ஒரு, பள்ளியிலிருந்து மாணவ மாணவிகள்‌ என்னைக்‌ காண வந்திருந்தார்கள்‌. இந்திய- பாகிஸ்தான்‌. எல்லையான வாகா பகுதிக்கு அவர்கள்‌ பயணம்‌ சென்று கொண்டிருந்தார்கள்‌. * வாகா எல்லைப்பகுதியில்‌ உள்ள இந்திய வீரர்களுக்கு உற்சாகமூட்டும்‌ வகையில்‌ ஒரு செய்தியை எங்களுக்குக்‌ கொடுங்கள்‌, நாங்கள்‌ அவர்களிடம்‌ அதைக்‌ கொண்டு செல்கிறோம்‌” என்றார்கள்‌ அந்தக்‌ குழந்தைகள்‌.

“செய்தி அல்ல, ஒரு கவிதையே தருகிறேன்‌” என்று சொல்லி விட்டு ஒரு, கவிதையை அவர்களுக்குத்‌ தந்தேன்‌. “ என்‌ அன்புக்குரிய வீரர்களே... என்கிற தலைப்பில்‌, அத்தக்‌ கவிதை

என்‌ அன்‌புக்‌குரிய வீரர்களே

“எல்லையைக்‌ காக்கும்‌ காவல்‌ வீரர்களே
இந்த மண்ணின்‌ சிறந்த மகன்கள்‌ நீங்கள்‌!
நாங்கள்‌ எல்லோரும்‌ உறங்கும்‌ போதும்‌.
நீங்கள்‌ துயிலாமல்‌ வேலை பார்க்கிறீர்கள்‌!

சுழன்றடிக்கும்‌ காற்றிலும்‌, குளிரடிக்கும்‌ பனியிலும்‌:
கத்தி போன்ற கதிர்களால்‌ கூறு போடும்‌ வெயிலிலும்‌:
'தனிமையில்‌ தவமிருக்கும்‌ யோகியைப்‌ போல்‌:
தளராமல்‌ நீங்கள்‌ காவல்‌ புரிகிறீர்கள்‌!

மலைகளின்‌ உச்சிகளிலும்‌, பள்ளத்தாக்குகளின்‌ ஆழங்களிலு
சுட்டெரிக்கும்‌ பாலையிலும்‌, அலையடிக்கும்‌ கடலிலும்‌
ஆதிஅந்தமற்ற வான்வெளிகளிலும்‌ உங்களின்‌ அரிய
இளம்பருவம்‌ நாட்டிற்காக அர்ப்பணிக்கப்படுகிறது

நாடெங்கும்‌ பரவிச்‌ செல்லும்‌ காற்றின்‌ ஒலி.
உங்களின்‌ பாதங்களின்‌ புகழ்‌ பாடிச்செல்கிறது.
உங்களுக்காக நாங்கள்‌ பிரார்த்திக்கிறோம்‌.
கடவுளிடம்‌ உங்கள்‌ நலனை வேண்டுகிறோம்‌.”

எனவே, இந்தச்‌ சமயத்தில்‌ உங்களுக்கு சொல்வதெல்லாம்‌, 46/௭ 4. கோவகாகடன்‌ தியாகம்‌ நாடெங்கும்‌ பரவிச்‌ சென்று காற்றின்‌ ஒலி போல்‌. சரவணன்‌ புகழ்‌ பாடிச்செல்லும்‌.

My dear Soldiers

Oh! Defenders of borders
You are great sons of my land
When we are all asleep
You still hold on to your deed

Windy season or snowy days
Or scorching sun's sweltering rays
You are there guarding all the time awake
Treading the lonely expanses as yogis

Climbing the heights or striding the valleys
Defending the deserts or guarding the marshes
Surveillance in seas and by securing the air
Prime of your youth given to the nation!!

Wind chimes of my land vibrate your feat
We pray for you brave men!!
